NYC Trip

Since Tyler has spring break this week, we decided to do a quick trip to NYC while we live back East. Tyler has a buddy from BYU who is at Medical School at Columbia so we had a great place to stay. (Thanks Jon and Ashley! We had a great time). We rode a bus over that was really cheap, but unfortunately left on the day of the crazy rain/wind storm, so it took a long time. When we got there, it looked like an umbrella graveyard. There was such strong winds on Saturday, umbrellas littered the ground looking like this. I thought it was hilarious.
Sunday was rainy, so we spent the day in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was fantastic, but much too big to see the whole thing. We especially loved the Monet and Van Gogh exhibits there. Tyler did not however appreciate any of the modern art. That night, we walked down 5th Ave and found a really NASTY place to eat right outside Times Square (we had no idea we were even there!). Waste of money, but oh well!

Monday we went to the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. The best part is it's free and has a good view of the Statue. We then went to the downtown area to see Wall Street and some historical stuff. This is right near NY stock exchange- I loved this church framed by all the tall buildings. We headed up to Times Square to get some "cheap" Phantom tickets. We got great seats and enjoyed a wonderful performance. Even though I have seen Phantom many times, I still loved it, especially the first time the organ blasts the music that shakes you inside. This is us in Times Square, just walking around.Tuesday we finally had some sunshine and so headed to Chinatown. We loved walking down the street seeing all the cute Chinese people selling all sorts of stuff. I got a great "Coach" purse, "Dolce and Gabbana" sunglasses, and a "Burberry" scarf. I had fun shopping, while Tyler liked reliving the good 'ole days speaking Chinese, finding his favorite drinks and candy, and reading characters. He even helped barter the price for my purse down.Jon and Ashley told us about the lottery for front row tickets to a play for $25. We decided to try for West Side Story tickets and Tyler was the 2nd person drawn! We had front row, center tickets. It was AMAZING! I loved it, it is so cool to see everything so closely.Tyler did love the pizza.Wednesday we had a few hours so we shopped at Macy's and saw the Empire state building from a distance. We rode home on our bus, and had no problems this time.
Although we had a great time, we were happy to get out of the big city life, and riding the subway. We loved having so much time to spend together and to relax a little.

I am planning a trip to NYC in the fall and I am wondering what bus you took to the city. My friend and I are hoping to see the city for a few days and then do some sight seeing upstate. Any advice or suggestions you could give me would be great :)
