What we've been up to...

Sorry it's been so long since we've posted, but we are both super busy with school/internship stuff.

We had a lovely time over Christmas break and enjoyed seeing both of our families so much! We really miss everyone when we are so far away! We enjoyed relaxing, spending time together and catching up with friends. I am officially a Twilight fanatic and read the first 3 books over the break! Love it. Love Edward.

We spent Christmas day at the Moore's in St. George. It was the first white Christmas in years, although I'm not sure it counts as there was just a dusting of light snow. We especially enjoyed talking to Tyler's younger brother, Trevor who is serving a mission in Busan, Korea. He is doing great and enjoying adjusting to a new culture with some crazy food.
We also got to spend a few days at Tyler's grandparents in Tropic, UT, which is a teeny tiny town outside of Bryce Canyon. We got to enjoy the snow there- about 12 inches of new snow when we arrived.

We went up to my family's house in Layton for the rest of the trip and got to see all my sisters and husbands minus one, who was attending his sister's wedding. It was great to have everyone together. We went night sledding on New Years' Eve and had a blast. Bronco kept trying to steal everyone's sleds and pull them around. We had a fondue party while waiting for midnight. Yummy! We rang in the New Year the traditional Melville way- banging pots and pans with wooden spoons.
Since we've been home:
  • I gave Tyler a haircut. Poor thing, it took 2 1/2 hours! And it still isn't blended very well... Maybe next time will go a little smoother! There was a ton of hair all over my floor and after sweeping 6 times, I am still finding random little hairs on the floor. Maybe outside will be better. We're still trying to decide if it's actually worth the $10 we'd save. Any tips? YouTube videos are NOT that informative!
  • We FINALLY got an entertainment center. Our poor TV no longer has to sit on the ground. Yea... $40 from Craig's list. Gotta love it right? It's cherry wood so it matches the rest of the furniture nicely.
  • I am traveling 3 times a week to Niagara Falls to do some clinical training. It takes me about 1 hr and 40 min to get there in good weather. Luckily, the last Twilight book on CD is saving me! Only 2 more weeks of this. Yeah...
  • My classes this semester are ones I'll actually have to study for. Drats!
  • Tyler is starting up in his classes and isn't quite sure how much he likes them. He is keeping busy and already has his first test lined up for Monday. He is working on a research proposal so he can get funding for his required summer research. He gets to start doing rotations once a week with a family doctor so he's excited about that.
  • Tyler starts Basketball intramurals this week. I wonder what injury he's going to get this year? ( Last year, 10 stitches in his head and a nasty black eye)
  • I successfully set off the fire alarm while trying to cook bacon. Unfortunately, all the alarms in our building are connected so the entire building (with about 8 apartments) went off. Poor neighbors...luckily there was a security officer already here for another apartment because the fire alarms are constantly going off in this place!
  • I finally convinced Tyler to rent a steamer machine to clean our couch. It was totally nasty. Hopefully this helps a little. We thought we could go without the "anti-foam" but after the machine started overflowing with suds, we broke down and bought some
  • Tyler helped a lady after he and a classmate heard a car roll over while they were walking home. Pretty crazy, but hey, if you're going to crash somewhere do it in front of 2 med students and 1 block away from the hospital.
Hope this gives a better picture of what's going on in the lives of 2 very busy, very poor, med students/interns!

Looks like a fun Christmas. I didn't realize that you gave Tyler his haircut. That's a good thing. It looked good to me.

Sounds fun! I was in St. George for Christmas and Salt Lake for New Years, we just barely missed each other!

Yeah, finally an update. I can't believe it took 2 1/2 hours to do Tyler's hair, I would go crazy! And books on tape definately keep you sane on those long drives!

Sounds like life is so crazy right now. That sucks you ahve to travel so far for your clinicals. How is the internship going? When does it end? Props to you for giving Tyler a haircut...you are braver than I. Good to read all your updates! Take care!
