The farmers market has fresh new delicious apples this week, so I decided it was time to try out some caramel apples. Unfortunately for me, I have zero experience in candy making. I thought I followed the recipe exactly, but something went very wrong in the process.

They looked good, even tasted good, but were essentially unchewable. We're talking sugar daddy chewy, but if I had dentures, it would pull them right out. We braved trying one, but when Tyler was cutting it, all the caramel just came right off and we had to bite big chunks of it with a bit of apple.
Needless to say, I peeled off all the caramel and basically ruined 8 apples in the process. I won't be trying caramel apples anytime soon...unless I have direct supervision with an experienced caramel maker. Any volunteers?
Our garden is doing pretty well, minus the tomatoes (starting to die again from Blight). We harvested a few Yukon Gold potatoes this week and a few white onions. We have had tons and tons of green beans, basil and lettuce. Much better than last year!

Sorry about your caramel apples! I hate working so hard on something that turns out to be a disaster. I'm glad your garden has worked out better this year. Everything is alive in ours, but it doesn't get enough sun, so no veggies are growing. Sad!
Thats really funny about your apples! Too bad!! Candy making is hard :) Way to go on your garden, I wish I had fresh basil and beans and onions!!
Look at your gardening! I'm always so impressed with people who do that. I wouldn't even know where to start.
Doesn't exactly look like the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory apples. Dang.
Haha...this is funny! I seem to have disasters in the kitchen lately - maybe because I'm so adventurous :). Just to let you know, we changed our blog address to craiganderin11.blogspot.com because our last name isn't very common...
