Weekend getaway in Carlsbad

Last month Tyler had a conference down in Carlsbad so I tagged along with the kids.  It was our first time down to Carlsbad and we loved it.  Such a pretty area and clean city.  We stopped by the beach on our way to the hotel.  My kids love playing there so much and have turned into such beach babies.
There were tons of smooth small rocks along the beach here which the kids loved throwing into the waves.  Until Harrison didn't run away fast enough and got wet!  It was pretty funny.
The next day while Tyler was in meetings we headed to a wetlands preserve to hike around a bit.  It was beautiful and we saw lots of cool birds.  We did have to stay much further away from the water than I had imagined, but the kids loved being outside.

 Our professional birdwatcher.

Afterwards we grabbed donuts and then played at a park.  Tyler was done earlier in the afternoon so after Harry's nap, we went swimming for a bit.  It was a little chilly, so it mostly turned into hot tub swimming!
The next day after Tyler's quick morning meetings, we headed to the beach and had an awesome time!  It was almost 90 degrees, so we were all swimming and playing in the water.  After a great few hours, we walked over to a local BBQ restaurant and had lunch.  It was awesome and they gave the girls cotton candy with their kids meals!  So fun.  Harrison wanted some until he tried to eat it and couldn't figure out what to do then spit it out.
We had a great time and loved feeling like we had a vacation!  The kids absolutely love staying in a hotel and everyone actually slept good this time around!
